Raft Craft Challenge

The Game

This challenge will put you in the shoes of the Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl who built a Kon-Tiki to sail 8,000 km across the Pacific Ocean successfully in a hand-built raft from South America to the Tuamotu Islands in order to prove that ancient people could have made long sea voyages, creating contacts between separate
cultures.

Your team will also build a raft together with the materials provided by the instructors and sail it as a team with set goals and challenges.

We provide this fun activity at beautiful natural locations may it be lakes or coast.

The Objectives

As a team you need to work together to design and build a raft that supports the whole team using materials like bamboo, plastic drums, tires and ropes. A certified instructor will teach different kind of knots and will assess the raft before departure. Then it’s time to take to the water. Teams will have a head on race through a set course and they need to do activities while testing the raft. Leadership is essential to make sure the raft goes the right way. When the first part of the activity is finished teams have to convert the raft to a sailing raft and sail it to a mark and back.
